New 355HP Mercedes Benz A 45 AMG Bows at the Geneva Motor Show

Mercedes-Benz is not exactly renowned for its hot hatches; in fact, it has been absent from this segment since… well, forever. Now that the third-gen A-Class is a proper B-Segment hatchback instead of a mini MPV like its predecessors, the three-pointed star decided it wanted to play.

Actually, dominate would be a more appropriate word. The A 45 AMG that made its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show today is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder that, despite having a capacity of just 1,991 cc, boasts a Porsche (never mind VW, Ford and the other GTis) scaring 355HP (360PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft).

The A 45 AMG is fitted with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch seven-speed transmission, the AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and a three-stage ESP. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds and reaches an electronically restricted top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

"With the new A 45 AMG we have well and truly achieved our aim of developing the most dynamic, powerful and efficient four-cylinder series production car", said Tobias Moers, Head of Overall Vehicle Development and Board Member of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “With its impressive high-tech package and the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the A 45 AMG is a thoroughbred AMG through and through."

According to the company, the A 45 AMG leads the pack in efficiency, too, as it posts an average consumption of 6.9 lt/100 km (34.1 mpg US) and emits 161-165 g of CO2/km, complying with the EU6 emission standards that will come into effect in 2015.

Mercedes-Benz announced that the release date for the A 45 AMG will be April 8 and its market launch in Germany will commence in June.

Lightly Restyled 2013 Citroen C3 Hatch Heads to Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva motor show will mark the world debut of the restyled C3, if you believe Citroën, or European debut if you take into consideration the updated C3 presented in Brazil last summer.

On the outside, the European C3 gains the same suit of cosmetic upgrades as the Brazilian model including a new fascia with a double chevron grille and bumper-mounted LED daytime running lights, plus new tail light clusters combined with new reflectors set underneath the rear bumper. An available new Ink blue body paint completes the exterior revisions.

Stepping into the interior, there are new dashboard strips in matt black, brown or Moondust grey, which match the updated upholstery.

Citroën is also enhancing the C3s range with a new pair of PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engines with a 1.0 or 1.2-liter displacement and outputs of 67hp (68PS) and 81hp (82PS) respectively, borrowed from the new Peugeot 208.

The VTi 68 and VTi 82 PureTech engines return a fuel economy between 62.8 and 65.7mpg UK (4.5lt – 4.3lt/100km), and CO2 emissions between 99 and 104g/km.

A VTi 120 (118hp) petrol engine is also available with a manual or automatic gearbox, as are four diesel units, the HDi 70, e-HDi 70, HDi 90 and e-HDi 115.

European sales will begin after the Geneva Auto Salon, with the C3 facelift to arrive in the UK this summer.

Spyker B6 Venator Treads Out in the Open at the Geneva Motor Show

Weve always appreciated Spyker for their unconventional aircraft-inspired designs and the level of detail and craftsmanship put into their interiors. Thankfully, their all-new B6 Venator Concept, revealed in Geneva is more of the same. If you know their older cars, then taking one look at this will immediately tell you what this is.

The B6 is a compact, Porsche Boxster-sized car, with its engine mounted in the middle of its all-aluminium chassis clad in carbon fiber. Providing the cars motivation is a V6 engine, which they say produces in excess of 375 hp.

The power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox, which can also be operated via the exposed-linkage gear lever (a Spyker trademark) or paddles located behind the steering wheel.

Inside the B6 Venator, the airplane-inspired passenger compartment thoroughly deserves being called a "cockpit". Aside from the funky design, future owners of the car will be pleased to know that all the leather used to upholster the interior goes through a "special tanning process" just so the richness of the color finish is just that little bit richer.

The start of production is planned for beginning of 2014, and deliveries to Europe, the Middle East and Asia will start soon after. The US is also getting the B6 next year; however, buyers will have to wait until autumn. The price is expected to be roughly the equivalent of between $125,000 to $150,000 (€95,000 to €115,000).

Fisker will Unveil New Crossover Model at Frankfurt Motor Show

The man behind the Karma extended-range electric sports sedan, company boss Henrik Fisker, revealed some ambitious new plans to develop the brands lineup during the European launch of the saloon model.
According to one report from British magazine What Car?, Fisker confirmed the development of a new crossover that will combine elements from sporty estate and SUV models, and which will be revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show in September before it allegedly reaches showrooms in 2012.
No other details were given about the crossover, but we reckon it will most likely be shown in pre-production form.
Aside from the Karma and the as of yet unnamed crossover, Fisker is also said to be working on the production version of the 2009 Karma S coupe-convertible (pictured in our gallery) and a smaller and more practical model called the Nina, both of which are due to enter production in 2013.
In addition, Fisker said that the company has plans for a four-wheel drive version of the Karma as well as a new two-speed transmission designed to improve fuel economy and offer a higher top speed.
